IBM announces new Chip - 4X Powerful than Today's Best

IBM announced today that they have developped a new breed of computer chip, one that is ultra-dense and squeezes in four times more computing power than today's leading silicon chips. Up until now, chip manufactuers have only been able to reduce the size of transistors to around 10-14 nanometers. IBM has been able to further shrink them to just 7 nanometers ( a strand of DNA is 2.5 nanometers thick). In addition, the new chips will use a silicon-germanium mixture rather than pure silicon, allowing for the transistors to switch faster and use less power. This leads to chips having over 20 billion individual transistors, and although they are still in development (and nowhere near consumer readiness), should be recognized as an incredible feat in the advancement of computing.
