IP addresses are about to run out

American Registry for Internet Numbers has announced that very few IPv4 addresses, the identifying number assigned to every internet-connected device, remain. The ARIN, responsible for all IP addresses in North America, recently turned down a request to purchase a block of numbers, being "weeks away" from running out entirely. The current IPv4 4-digit format was meant to be a temporary solution until IPv6, which began develpment in the 1990's, could be implemented as a full replacement. Once IPv4 addresses run out, all internet users will have to switch to IPv6.
